NEW ADAM SMITH CENTRE
The Coastal Communities Fund has confirmed its contribution of £292,000 toward the refurbishment of the new exhibition and visitor centre at 1 Adam Smith Close. This listed building stands within the grounds of what was once the home of Kirkcaldy's famous son, economist Adam Smith.
UK Communities Secretary Eric Pickles announced the government funding for the project on his visit to Kirkcaldy recently. The total cost will be £700,000 with funding also coming from Fife Council, Historic Scotland and Fife Environmental Trust.
Mr Pickles said "It's great the Global Foundation is making his legacy a catalyst for regenerating Kirkcaldy and the local economy."
He was taken on a brief tour of Kirkcaldy's heritage sites, from The Old Kirk, down Kirk Wynd and through the Adam Smith Close to the site of the new Adam Smith Exhibition centre.
