Discover Adam Smith's Kirkcaldy on a Guided Heritage Tour

Did you know that you can explore Kirkcaldy through the eyes of one of the world's greatest thinkers?

Our Adam Smith Heritage Tours offer a unique opportunity to walk through the streets that shaped Adam Smith's early life, inspired his thinking, and influenced the ideas that continue to impact the world today.

Led by our enthusiastic team of volunteer guides, each tour brings Kirkcaldy's rich history to life. Our volunteers are passionate about sharing Adam Smith's story and are continually developing and refining their tours, making every walk an engaging and enjoyable experience.

Along the way, you'll visit some of Kirkcaldy's most significant landmarks, including the Adam Smith Garden and Heritage Centre, the Old Kirk, the Esplanade (Promenade) overlooking the Firth of Forth, Betty Nicoll's House, the colourful Adam Smith murals, the site of Adam Smith's school, and the historic High Street. Each stop reveals another piece of the story behind the man whose ideas changed the way we think about economics, society, and human behaviour.

Recently, we had the pleasure of welcoming members of the Dalgety Bay Digipix Group on one of our tours, guided by our volunteer Martin. The group, whose aim is to develop photographic skills in a friendly, sociable, and non-competitive environment, captured many of the locations visited during the walk that you can see in this post. Their beautiful photographs highlight not only Kirkcaldy's heritage but also the unique character of the places connected to Adam Smith's life.

Whether you're a local resident discovering your town from a fresh perspective or a visitor interested in Scotland's rich intellectual heritage, our Adam Smith Heritage Tours offer something for everyone. Just visit our events page or get in touch with the Adam Smith Global Foundation to find out when our next guided tour takes place.

We look forward to welcoming you on a future tour and sharing the remarkable story of Kirkcaldy's most famous son.
